GUANGZHOU, China – The automotive world is witnessing a monumental shift. BYD’s ultra-luxury sub-brand, Yangwang, will soon unveil the U9 Xtreme. This debut is happening at the upcoming Guangzhou Auto Show. However, this is not just another hypercar launch. It is the public premiere of the fastest production car globally. Moreover, this electric vehicle has shattered two prestigious industry records.

The grand reveal is scheduled from November 21st to 30th. Notably, the Yangwang U9 Xtreme has already proven its capabilities. It obliterated a top-speed barrier and also made history at the Nürburgring.

Shattering Speed Records: 496 km/h and a Sub-7-Minute ‘Ring Lap

The Yangwang U9 Xtreme recently cemented its status as a performance legend by setting two certified records:

  1. World’s Fastest Production Car: A professional pilot pushed the U9 Xtreme on a German test track. It reached a certified top speed of 496.22 km/h (308.3 mph). Therefore, it officially dethrones the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+.
  2. First Production EV to Break the 7-Minute Barrier: The hypercar also lapped the Nürburgring in 6 minutes 59.157 seconds. As a result, it is the first series-production electric car to break the seven-minute mark.

The Technology Behind the 3000+ Horsepower Beast

This record-breaking performance requires revolutionary engineering. Specifically, the car uses a groundbreaking 1200-volt high-voltage platform. This design lets its Blade Battery handle extreme power demands. Consequently, the system provides immense energy for record-breaking runs.

Power comes from an advanced e4 powertrain with four electric motors. Each motor produces 555 kW. Together, they create a combined output of over 3000 horsepower.

Managing this power required a full aerodynamic redesign. For example, engineers added a massive rear spoiler. Additionally, they installed titanium brake calipers and carbon-ceramic discs for stopping power.

From U9 to U9 Xtreme: An Exclusive Hypercar

The Xtreme version is a major leap over the standard Yangwang U9. The base model is powerful, with 960 kW (1,305 hp). In contrast, the U9 Xtreme operates at a much higher level.

Yangwang emphasizes the model’s exclusivity. In fact, it will produce only 30 units globally. This makes the U9 Xtreme a true collectible. Orders for this exclusive hypercar opened recently.

A Clear Statement of Technological Leadership

The U9 Xtreme’s debut is a powerful statement from BYD. Ultimately, it signals the brand’s technological leadership. By conquering both top speed and track endurance, BYD proves a key point. The future of high-performance motoring is now unequivocally electric.
