Apple is working on two new tablets for its 2026 lineup. According to leaked internal documents tied to an early build of iOS 26, the company plans to launch the next-generation iPad 12 and an upgraded iPad Air. These models will focus on better performance, faster wireless features, and closer integration with the latest Apple silicon.
iPad 12 to Feature A19 Chip and New Wireless Module
Apple is developing the iPad 12 under the code names J581 and J582. The tablet will use the A19 chip, the same processor that powers the iPhone 17 series. The A19 runs on an advanced 3-nanometer manufacturing process, giving the device a major performance boost over the A16 chip used in the iPad 11.
The iPad 12 will also include the Apple N1 wireless module. This component manages Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections and first appeared in the iPhone 17. With the N1 module, users can expect better wireless stability and improved energy efficiency.
Aside from the new chip and wireless system, the iPad 12 will keep most of its existing hardware features. Apple appears to focus on performance gains instead of a full redesign.
iPad Air 2026 to Launch With Powerful M4 Processor
The next-generation iPad Air is being developed under four code names: J707, J708, J737, and J738. These codes suggest that Apple plans multiple versions of the device, likely with different screen sizes and cellular options.
The new iPad Air will use the M4 chip, the same processor found in the latest iPad Pro lineup. With the M4, the iPad Air will deliver much higher performance for gaming, creative work, and multitasking.
Like the iPad 12, the Air will include the N1 wireless module. Apple does not plan to change the overall design or display technology. The new model will keep the look and screen quality of the 2025 version.
What to Expect From Apple’s 2026 Tablet Lineup
Both devices highlight Apple’s goal to bring stronger chips and better connectivity across its entire tablet range. The iPad 12 will become one of the most powerful entry-level tablets Apple has ever released. The iPad Air will move closer to the iPad Pro thanks to the M4 chip, giving users more pro-level performance at a lower price.
More details should appear in early 2026 when Apple begins preparing its spring launch events.
